The last goodbye is so hard to do

Whenever I watch "Old Yeller" or "Where the Red Fern Grows" or now "Marley and Me" I always end up bawling my eyes out. Why? Because in the end the dog dies.

The summer I turned 10 my Mom took us to Colman Pool in West Seattle to go swimming. As we were leaving there was a lady outside that had a cute little puppy she was trying to give away. Of course she had a whole gaggle of children around her. We looked longingly at the dog but my mom knew my dad would be mad if we brought home a dog so we started to walk away. About 10 feet later she changed her mind so we went back and picked up the puppy, later to be christened Dodger.
Over the last 14 years Dodgers gone with us to Canada many times, chased gophers, pulled us up and down the street like a sled dog when it snowed, chased birds and just been a loyal loving dog. Today we had to put Dodger to sleep. About a year ago we found out Dodger had Lymphoma. Slowly he got worse and worse but my Dad was confident that he would hang on 'til I got home from Thailand, and he did :) This morning I sat and petted him for an hour. He got a big smile on his face and just laid down. He was such a good dog and it's so hard to let him go, but I know this is best for him. I'm going to miss him a lot.
Rest in Peace Dodger

Oh, my friend, I'm so sorry for your loss! I am so glad that you got to be with him this summer--and especially to have that last special vacation. Praying for you!
