Happy Birthday America

For the first time in my life I will not be celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks and celebrations. Here in Thailand July 4th is just another day. The idea of an independence day is even semi foreign to the Thai people since they were never colonized. We are having a little semi celebration here at GES though. It has been declared International Day and all the kids came to class this morning dressed in various outfits from different countries. The best part was us teachers didn't have to follow dress code so today I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt or "american clothes" for international day :) Unfortunately flip flops are still not allowed. I hate wearing shoes....

So as soon as school gets out today a big group of us will be off to the beach for the weekend. It's just Hua Hin so it's not quite the tropical paradise of Koh Samet or Phuket but it's the beach all the same and it will be a welcomed escape from the business of Bangkok. Hopefully there will be many pictures when I get back.

I hope everyone has a HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY back home. Eat a hamburger and watch some fireworks for me :)
